Our first commercial bottling, this Dundee Hills Chardonnay drinks like a horn section—it’s bold and loud but with vibrancy and sizzle. Space Hardware hails from the Durant Vineyard, located just half a mile away from Eyrie’s original plantings in the Willamette Valley and possessing the same iron-rich Jory soil that made the Dundee Hills famous.
Dundee Hills wines, whether red or white, are known for beautiful aromatics that lean towards delicate floral notes and palates that balance zippy acidity with silky textures. This wine checks all those boxes.
We fermented Space Hardware with indigenous yeasts in a seven year old barrel and aged it for 19 months on the primary lees without stirring or racking. The goal was to allow the micro-oxygenation of the barrel to bring out underlying mineral tones and tamp down the initially exuberant fruit. Using a neutral barrel kept oak-derived flavors to a minimum and a longer aging brought out secondary characteristics and a silkier texture. The result is a classic Willamette Chardonnay, with fruit, mineral and spice flavors all interwoven.
