Gravity’s Pull - 2018

This is a realized vision of Chardonnay in the Willamette Valley—exactly how we want our wines from this grape to taste. Showing exceptional cut and drive, with a flinty nose and a palate of minerality etched with citrus zest and patina-ed with orchard fruit, we think Gravity’s Pull is a prime example of why serious drinkers should be looking for Chardonnay from this part of Oregon.

We sourced the fruit for this wine from the thirty-year-old, ungrafted vines of the Dion vineyard in the cool northwest corner of the Chehalem Mountains AVA. Dion is a hidden gem in the Willamette Valley, giving wines that balance the bright freshness of its climate with the power inherent in its unique loess soils and old vines.

Inspired by Burgundy and the great Chardonnay of the Colli Orientali del Friuli, this wine was fermented with its native yeasts in older oak barrels. It matured there undisturbed for eleven months until we racked it into stainless steel for a final six months of elevage before bottling.

This is a wine to drink now, certainly, but will also gain complexity and texture in the cellar. 2018 was a hugely successful vintage for us and this wine is one of the shining stars of the set.
